Magellan has rolled out three new portable navigation devices (PNDs) in its RoadMate line, adding its OneTouch interface previously available only on certain of its Maestro premium models. OneTouch lets users program up to nine different points of interest (POI) or searches that are then available with — you probably figured this part out — one touch of the screen. One touch then begets the user instant directions. Up until today, this feature was only available on the Maestro 4350 and 4370.

All three of the new RoadMate PNDs include this feature, including the 1470, which boasts a 4.7-inch display. The RoadMate 1440, has a 4.3-inch screen, while the 1340 has a 3.5-inch screen. In addition to OneTouch, all three models boast spoken street names, AAA TourBook POI information, highway lane assist, highway exit points of interest search, and multi-destination routing, according to Magellan.

The AAA TourBook listings are searchable and include AAA Diamond-rated restaurants and lodgings, along with attractions, events, and campgrounds. Users can also reportedly access listings for AAA-approved auto repair shops and businesses that offer AAA member discounts. All listings include the exact GPS location, Magellan says. All three new RoadMates also provide a toll-free menu for AAA members to access the auto club’s roadside assistance network.

Other features include:

• QuickSpell with New SmartCity Search, which narrows searches and checks spelling when entering addresses.
• multi-destination routing with route optimization
• maps of the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico
• SmartDetour, which prompts drivers to route around heavy or stationary traffic.
• 2-D and 3-D map views with auto day/night mode switching
• trip computer and trip planner

No word on the actual GPS receiver, but it is apparently a high-sensitivity receiver, as Magallen is claiming 3- to 5-meter sensitivity.

We should also note that if you want access to real-time traffic data — Magellan offers free-for-life traffic — you’ll need to purchase the Magellan Traffic Link power adapter, which houses the traffic data receiver. The service covers 50-some cities around the United States.

The new Magellan RoadMate series is now available at Amazon.com and most major retailers, Magellan says. Its manufacturer’s suggested prices are as follows RoadMate 1470 is $299, RoadMate 1440 is $249 and RoadMate 1340 is $179. These units are so new they’re not even posted on Magellan’s website yet, as of this posting, however the 1470 and 1440 are to be found on Amazon, as Magellan suggests, although the 1340 was nowhere to be found as of this posting. We would also note that right now – we imagine this might not last — the 1470 is listed for $229 at Amazon, while the 1440 is listed at $199.
