TomTom Unveils Latest XL PND for the North America; iPhone Car Kit Finally Available in Europe
TomTom today unveiled the latest member of its mid-range XL line of portable navigation devices (PND) for the North American market, the 335S — the S ostensibly standing for speech. Text-to-speech with spoken street names is the key difference between the TomTom models with the S designation and those that do not — such as the 330 and 330S, for example.
Want a Larger Display? TomTom Unveils Extra Extra Large (XXL) Sat Navs: 530S and 540S
I guess Europe’s TomTom figured they would roll out their XXL model portable navigation devices (PNDs) in the United States first, to go with our big cars. The company took the wraps off the XXL 530S and XXL 540S, both of which feature 5-inch touchscreens, as well as the company’s IQ Routes technology, to help you navigate that big Buick through traffic. IQ Routes involves collected historical speed measurements for every time of day and road segment; TomTom claims that 35 percent of the time, IQ routes can find you a faster route.
TomTom’s Navigation App for Your Precious iPhone Lands in the Apple iTunes App Store
Wow, just when you thought it was the perfect future iPhone app — it was arriving sometime in the future and we thought it always would be — the TomTom iPhone app showed up in the Apple iTunes app store on Monday. It’s been a long time coming, apparently, judging by the rumors, reports, and what not that have been swirling around since forever — at least since the second day the original iPhone went on sale. In any event, for $99 you can get the TomTom app for iPhone 3G and 3GS, which includes a map of the United States and Canada.
TomTom Debuts Connected PND, Brings New One, XL Models to North America – No Foolin’
It may be April Fool’s Day, but TomTom apparently isn’t fooling around when it comes to the North American market. Today it unleashed its first connected portable navigation device (PND), the Go 740 Live, hoping to entice buyers with a (relatively) low price tag of $399.95, and the first three months of connected Live services free. Will it set the market aflame where previous connected PND entrants have fizzled? Only time will tell, but on paper at least, the Go 740 Live looks pretty sweet.
