Garmin Nuvi 1690 Slated for Late October Release, AT&T Providing Nulink Connected Services
Garmin has announced that AT&T is providing the location-based services for its forthcoming connected portable navigation device (PND), the Nuvi 1690. Said PND, which is officially listed on Garmin’s website as being available sometime in the fourth quarter of this year, will be available as of October 20, according to Amazon. The online retailer is accepting pre-orders for the device, which is selling for a cool $499.99.
Details Emerge on Garmin’s Forthcoming Connected Nuvi 1690 PND, 1800-Series
News broke in the gadget blogosphere at the end of July when documents became available on the U.S. FCC’s website regarding an apparent forthcoming Garmin portable navigation device (PND — or, sat nav in British parlance). Volkswagen: Sprechen Sie Garmin? Ja!
Seems I missed some Garmin news last week, so here it is now. First off, German car maker Volkswagen is offering Garmin Nuvis as part of what it calls a Click and Ride option for all VWs — well, all VWs in Europe, at least. Looks like the Garmins that will be available with an after-market kit installation kit put in by a dealer are from the Nuvi 7×5 line of devices: 4.3 inch screens, digital traffic channel reception, 3D imagery, spoken street names, and Bluetooth for hands-free calling.
Garmin Provides Sneak Peak for its Latest GPS Device
Garmin today took the wraps off its latest portable navigation device (PND), the Nüvi 1490T — although it won’t hit store shelves until this summer. Garmin is calling this model a premium automotive GPS device with a 5-inch touchscreen and a body that is 25-percent slimmer than most existing Nüvis, the company says. It comes with free, lifetime traffic alerts in North America — hence the “T” in the name — and lane assist with junction view.
