RouteBuddy Makes More U.S. Topo Maps Available for its Mapping App for iPhone and iPod Touch
The folks over RouteBuddy, where they make GPS mapping software for Apple’s Mac desktop operating system as well as the iPhone (naturally) just announced that they have expanded the number of U.S. states covered by said iPhone app, RouteBuddy Atlas. It looks like a nifty little app; it puts raster topo maps directly on your iPhone (no over-the-air download charges/connection issues!), and using the iPhone’s GPS, it will pinpoint your location on said maps, as well as recording and saving tracks to your Mac or PC. It also works with OpenStreetMap and OpenCycleMap, two online, open-source mapping projects (but access to these requires an over-the-air data connection).

DeLorme PN-20: 5 Little Ounces of Mapping Excellence
In the age of hot personal navigation devices (PNDs), the PN-20 is a different breed. It wasn’t designed to be a PND. In fact, I wouldn’t call it a PND, but rather a traditional, handheld mapping unit like a Garmin eTrex, 60Cx or Magellan eXplorist. Being a mapping guy myself, it really caters to the needs of people like me.
